Soul Seasons: Aligning with the Earth’s Rhythms

It's funny how the cycles of the earth seem to mimic the cycles of our soul, or perhaps vice versa. As the weather becomes chiller, the collective energy shifts—time seems to move slower. My desire to retreat inward—physically, spiritually and emotionally—increases. Conversely, my desire to be in large, rambunctious groups, decreases.
But this inward retreat is not negative, instead… peaceful. It's an opportunity to honor the side of myself that is quieter, gentler, and more intentional. The hustle and bustle of the summer is energizing. It carries its own magic that promotes novel connection, excitation, and blissful memories in the high vibrational sunlight. But the magic of the fall into winter is equally as magnetizing, nurturing in its own subtle ways.

My perfect December day consists of candles, soul nourishing books, and glasses of red wine shared with friends in cozy clothes on the couch. It's a wonderful time of year for introspection. Sometimes the busyness of the summer and fall makes it difficult to remain grounded and cognitively aware of my internal state. Winter promotes the opportunity to check in with myself—open my journal, light some sage, ask myself hard questions, and intentionally re- align my environment—both internally and externally.
As the air becomes cooler, I encourage you to do the same. Light a yummy candle, read a good book, and re-connect to yourself and the loved ones around you. Honor the seasons of your soul. Below, I’ve offered some journal prompts to help cultivate a loving transition from Fall to Winter.
- Where am I physically when I feel happiest? Ponder the elements of the environment and ask yourself what sensations they bring you.
- Who am I surrounded by when I feel like my most nurtured, authentic self?
- How has my external environment reflected my internal environment lately (and vice versa)? What can I do to re-ignite tranquility both internally and externally?
- What small, realistic activity can I incorporate into my daily routine to show myself love?
